Lifelong Learning in the South West

The Union aims to connect members across the South West with interesting, exciting and enjoyable learning opportunities irrespective of location which means that in addition to having our own learning centres we link up with other trade unions, community organisations and learning providers.

The success of the CWU learning agenda is reliant on the Union Learner Representatives (ULRs) working with members at local level.   As the learning agenda progresses throughout the South West we aim to increase the numbers of ULRs so we can provide more local contact, at present most Branches have at least one!  Our ULRs are Matrix accredited to offer the best information and advice possible to members looking to improve their existing skills or gain new ones.  If you'd like to know more about ULRs then click here or speak to your local ULR.

Union Learning Reps also organise the learning opportunities that members want, at a time and place that suits, and at minimal cost - wherever possible for free!  What does this involve?  It might involve taught courses (possibly some in your workplace), organising informal learning events, sign posting on-line courses or it could simply be a matter of putting members in touch with learning that is already available locally. It's about providing  the good information and advice as well as access to the quality enjoyable learning experiences that our members want.

In the South West our ULRs come together to found the Regional Learning Committee and elect officers who are all experienced ULRs.  The committee meets quarterly and sets learning strategy for the region as well as sharing best practice.  It also runs workshops and has guest speakers to provide our ULRs with continuous development and improve our service to you.   If you'd like to know more about the Regional Learning Committee and it's meetings please click contact us via the 'Contacts' link.

We are constantly looking for and developing learning opportunities so if you know of any learning activities taking place in your area please let your local ULR or one of the Regional Learning Officers know so we can circulate the information to other CWU Members in that area.
